- "So, Jay is saying he's from, like, a mirror-world. Or a parallel universe that's very, very similar to ours."
"Multiverse would be a more apt description." - —Cisco Ramon and Martin Stein[src]
The multiverse, briefly referred to as the manyverse by Ralph Dibny,[1] is a concept that refers to the existence of infinite universes that comprise everything that exists. Each universe within the multiverse is referred to as a different "Earth," and each vibrates at a different frequency so that they can't normally interact with or be seen by each other. If someone (like speedsters in particular) is able to travel fast enough, it is possible to breach the dimensional barrier and travel between these Earths,[2] although breaches can also be created by vibers[3] (pre-crisis) or through Various technological means (All options were available pre-crisis; only some are post-crisis). Another option is magic itself which can also be used to create interdimensional portals to any universe or dimension (including any of the extra-Dimensional ones as well such as pocket dimensions). Other options also include the Speed Force, it's negative counterpart, the Temporal zone and gateways as well as inter-Dimensional, anti-matter, or time travel portals as well as disturbances such as disruptions and wormholes.
There were originally 52 known Earths in the multiverse, with an additional one lacking a formal designation due to its horrific state, becoming known as Earth-X.[4] However, the wider scope of the multiverse included at least 1938 parallel universes, which may or may not have been a part of a "local" 52-multiverse.[5] Theoretically, for every decision a person makes, there was a parallel universe where they didn't act on that decision in the same way; meaning the multiverse could be infinite or trans-infinite (meaning it has a large number of universes that just makes it seem like it's infinite).[6] Some universes, like Earth-666 and Earth-18, are known to have been further in the past than other universes. For others, such as Earth-99, the opposite holds true, with their respective timelines being further ahead than other universes.
The creation of the Flashpoint timeline resulted in the splintering of the multiverse into two halves, leading to a version of the multiverse where Flashpoint occurred, and one where it didn't (known as the transmultiversal multiverse). The timeline of these two multiverses had a number of differences, with the no-Flashpoint multiverse having a Crisis in 2018 and having an Earth-27 with a significantly changed timeline.[7][8][9][10]It is also possible that the Flashpoint and Reverse Flashpoint timelines resulted in the creation of two other Earths and therefore universes where people's lives and choices as well as events played out completely differently.
During the Anti-Monitor Crisis, the multiverse was completely destroyed with almost all lives lost, except for the seven Paragons (who took refuge at the Vanishing Point), Jennifer Pierce (who took refuge in her "safe space"), various people including the doppelgangers of certain individuals who all somehow survived the destruction of each of their respective universes and the planet Earth of one universe (thanks to that world's Brainiac 5 bottling it to save it from the incoming antimatter wave and who somehow survived himself), by the malevolent Anti-Monitor; it was all temporarily replaced by a single antimatter universe. However, A month after the destruction of the original multiverse, Oliver Queen and the Paragons successfully created a new multiverse (or simply rebooted the old one). For unknown reasons, some universes from the original multiverse/or original version of it (such as Earth-167, Earth-9, Earth-12, Earth-96, Possibly Earth-21, The New Earth-1, Earth-666, Earth-89, possibly Earth-66 and most likey many others who were not seen as well as those who have been unseen or mentioned/referenced since) were restored exactly as they'd been prior to the Crisis (or new and identical versions of them were simply made in their place), while others (such as Earth-2, Earth-19 and potentially a unknown amount of others) were replaced by completely new universes all together. Also, aspects and entities of a number of the old universes from the original multiverse (or former version of it) were merged into a new single universe, Earth-Prime. However, these new Earths are separated by a new and different unknown constant force other than vibrational frequencies (although they could have been altered into something else themselves), given that Earth-Prime residents cannot reach other universes through vibes,[11][12] and hence are unaware that the new multiverse exists. This means that this new/or rebooted multiverse was created with various changes to it that are very different from the old and original/previous version or the original one itself. However, three years later Team Flash would learn about the new/rebooted multiverse from Oliver Queen as the Spectre, who had to intervene by stopping Bloodwork who attempted to attack and infect the new/or rebooted multiverse with his own powers and start a new crisis of his own making, before he plans were thwarted and resulted in him completely losing his powers in the end. Also, Mobius was shrunken into the microverse where he can no longer interact and therefore cannot be a threat to the multiverse for the forseeable future indefinitely.
At some point, the villain Magog began to recruit villains (including those from Earth-Prime and other Earths) to create a team that would help aide him in his cause which was to eradicate all superheroes so humanity would not be dependent on them on a regular basis. This got the attention of Oliver Queen as the spectre who travelled to the year 2049 and warned The League about this imminent threat (as well as another threat afterwards) of which they helped XS and impulse combat by aiding them along with their other allies.
It is now the responsibility of Spectres like Oliver Queen (and Jim Corrigan as well) to monitor and protect the multiverse from threats like Mobius, Bloodwork, Magog along with his team of villains and any others who seek to cause or do it harm. It is also possible that other versions of the Monitor might still exist and who may also monitor and protect it on their own as well (however, all of their whereabouts are currently unknown and have remained that way since). Also, these new earths have people (various superheroes in groups/teams who consist of different individuals: aliens, humans, superhumans, vigilantes, etc,) on them who act as their defenders as they protect them from any threats themselves (examples include The League on Earth-Prime and 4125, the alternate version of Superman and his family as well as allies on Earth-TUD25 and many others).
History[]
Pre-Crisis[]
Birth of the multiverse[]
- "In the beginning, there was only one. A single black infinitude. Then the infinitude found release, and, finally, the darkness broke, filling it with life. With the multiverse. Every existence multiplied by possibility. And spread out before space and time in infinite measure. Civilizations rose and fell. And rose again across reality's grasping expanse."
- —Mar Novu[src]
The original Big Bang.
Before the birth of the multiverse, an infinitude of darkness existed. This infinitude found release through the Big Bang, allowing for the creation of the original multiverse. This gave rise to infinite universes with infinite possibilities through space and time.[13][14][15][16]
Rise of the Old Gods[]
Finding the power the Loom of Fate granted too great to be possessed, and wishing for mortals to determine their own destiny, Clotho broke it into three[17] pieces and scattered them across the multiverse, disguising them as rings.[18]
Age of heroes[]
- "This is our Earth. Let's call it Earth-1. And this second Earth, let's call it Earth-2. This is where Jay claims to be from. And these other Earths, 3, 4, 5, to infinity, all of them, are nearly identical to ours. And they all exist at the same time, giving us endless alternatives to what we have here. For example, the Joe West on Earth-2, your doppelgänger, he might not be a detective. He could be a Nobel Prize-winning physicist. And you, the Barry Allen here is the Flash, but over there, he could be an electrician."
- —Martin Stein explaining the multiverse to Team Flash[src]
Earth-1, one of the many worlds of the original multiverse.
In January 2015, John Constantine and Ritchie Simpson investigated a case related to the Egyptian dream temple technique. The spell was originally created by priests of Ancient Egypt as a pathway to "the dream temple". It was rediscovered in the twenty-first century on Earth-1 by philosophers and researchers of the occult, such as Jacob Shaw. Shaw, who already showed psychopathic tendencies in life by killing his assistant, created an alternate reality, in which he would lure curious students and hunt them down. Ritchie eventually managed to wrestle control over the alternate universe from Shaw, and wished to stay there and make it into something beautiful. However, he was convinced by Constantine to abandon such escapism and come back to his old life on Earth-1.[19]
In early 2015, Barry Allen and the rest of Team Flash accidentally opened the Singularity above Central City; though they succeeded in closing it,[20] a series of 52 breaches between Earth-1 and 2 were opened throughout the city as a result of their actions.
Zoom tried to destroy most of the multiverse with a Magnetar.
Between mid-to-late 2015 and early 2016, an evil speedster from Earth-2 known as Zoom began exploring the multiverse and attacking Earth-3,[21] before using the breaches created between Earths-1 and 2 to launch an assault on Earth-1's Central City in an attempt to steal that world's Flash's speed. Zoom sent numerous meta-humans through the breaches, each tasked with killing The Flash, but none succeeded. Team Flash, in an effort to stop Zoom's onslaught, systematically sealed each of the breaches, leaving only one open (built with the speed cannon stabiliser rings) on a lower level inside S.T.A.R. Labs, which was eventually named the breach room. Barry, Cisco Ramon, and Harrison Wells used the breach to travel to Earth-2 in order to rescue Jesse Wells,[22] sealing the breach upon their return.[23] However, "Jay Garrick" was killed by Zoom and pulled through the breach; the former was later discovered as a time remnant of Zoom himself. The breach room was later used to travel to other earths such as 3, 19, 38, X, etc.
Cisco later reopened a breach to Earth-2 from the Saint Perez Mental Asylum for the Criminally Insane, through which Zoom came through the Saint Perez Children's Hospital to Earth-1.[24] later, Attempting to increase his speed, Barry used a tachyon device, which in turn caused him to run so fast that he accidentally created a temporal wormhole/breach portal between Central City (Earth-1) and National City (Earth-38).[2] He used the same device to return back from Earth-38; Team Flash did not realise how long he was gone for on Earth-1.
A group of heroes during the Dominator invasion.
During his travels, Hunter Zolomon discovered that Earth-1 happened to be in the center juncture of the entire multiverse and that from there one could travel to any of the other infinite numbers of Earths. Enthralled by the idea of conquering all of existence, in May 2016 he attempted to use the Mercury Labs Magnetar to instantaneously destroy every Earth in the multiverse with a trans-dimensional shock-wave besides Earth-1; using its central location as a means of targeting every other universe at the same time. Through the sacrifice of his own time remnant, Barry Allen was able to stop the device moments before it destroyed the multiverse with the trans-dimensional shock-wave, and also managed to defeat Hunter in the process;[21] Zoom was converted into an enforcer of Speed Force as the 'Black Flash' (dreaded even more so than the Time Wraiths), for example tracking down Eobard Thawne across time and erasing him.[25]
The central Earth (Earth-1), one of the many worlds of the original multiverse.
With the knowledge of the multiverse, the heroes of Earth-1 soon found new allies with whom to fight various threats. People like Jay Garrick from Earth-3 would aid Team Flash several times,[26][27] and Supergirl would travel to Earth-1 for the first time in order to help the heroes fight an alien race known as the Dominators that were trying to invade planet Earth (Earth-1).[28]
Crisis on Earth-X[]
Earth-X villains crash Barry and Iris' wedding.
The New Reich from Earth-X organized an invasion on Earth-1 during the wedding of Iris West and Barry Allen in 2017. They were looking for Supergirl so that they could steal her heart for her Earth-X doppelgänger. However, the Team Arrow, the Legends, and the Team Flash, along with Supergirl, and her adoptive sister Alex Danvers, managed to prevent the attack.[29][4][30][31]
Coming Crisis[]
Sometime prior to late 2018, Mar Novu began testing various Earths across the multiverse, stating that he was testing them for an impending crisis. He tested an unknown number of Earths, but after testing and decimating Earth-90 with the Book of Destiny, Earth-90's Barry Allen, a speedster known as The Flash, managed to flee to Earth-1 to warn its heroes that their universe would be next to be tested.[32]
The Crisis begins[]
Antimatter wave nearing Earth-38.
- "Good to see you again, Barry."
"You too, Jay."
"You were right; you were hit with a dose of pure antimatter. Lucky you have speed healing, or that scratch coulda wiped ya out of existence."
"So is there a way that I can time travel past the barrier?"
"You wanna tell me why the hell you were time traveling to begin with?"
"I needed to see for myself if the Monitor was telling the truth about what happened to me—and I know what you're gonna say about time traveling."
"Actually, I was gonna tell you you made the right call. For the past year, I've been detecting antimatter signatures across the multiverse. Now, we don't know their origin. But if my algorithm is correct, all Earths could be in danger." - —Jay Garrick and Barry Allen[src]
Between 2018 and 2019, Jay Garrick detected a number of antimatter signatures throughout the multiverse. By October 2019, he had marked multiple antimatter signatures on his map, as he detected them near Earth-2, 6, 7, 17, 21, 26, 32, and X.[33]
- "Hey. Hey! What's taking so long?"
"It's done."
"Great. So, you won't mind if we test it out... It isn't working."
"It should be."
"Then where's the portal?"
"You wanna go to Earth-37, Earth-14-?"
"I want to go to Earth-2."
"Earth-2... is-gone? It registered at first, but now I see that it's like a shadow. There's no sign of life."
"This doesn't make any sense. You're lying. Fix it! Fix it!"
"I'm telling you, I did. I can fix tech; I can't bring back a whole freakin' universe!"
"I'm so sorry, Laurel-but they're gone." - —Laurel Lance, David Chin and Lyla Michaels[src]
In that same time frame, antimatter was unleashed upon Earth-2, killing its population and ultimately destroying the universe.[34] Some of the universes tracked on the map would also follow.[35]
Complete destruction[]
- "It is done. The infinite Earths are gone. Soon only the antimatter universe will remain."
- —Mobius[src]
An Antimatter wall near Earth-1.
During the Anti-Monitor Crisis, all of the original multiverse, as well as all life contained within it, was systematically destroyed by the Anti-Monitor (though the "other half" or #Transmultiversal multiverse was unaffected by the Crisis). Moments before her Earth's destruction, Jennifer Pierce unwittingly teleported to her 'safe space" and survived the Crisis. On the Waverider, at the final moment of Earth-1 before the ship's (after the Earth's) destruction, Pariah sent the seven Paragons: Kara Danvers, Kate Kane, Sara Lance, Barry Allen, Ryan Choi, J'onn J'onzz, and Clark Kent to the Vanishing Point; a point outside the space-time continuum, putting them outside the Anti-Monitor's reach. However, Lex Luthor re-wrote the Book of Destiny and replaced Clark as the Paragon of Truth, thus killing him.[36]
Rebirth[]
Oliver Queen came to the Vanishing Point after leaving Purgatory and collected the paragons while he gave Barry the energy that he required to tap into the Speed Force. They then travelled into the Speed Force but all of them were lost and seperated after they came into contact with Mobius who ambushed and attempted to stop them from travelling back to time. Everyone then ended up in different places in the Timeline of the visionary Earth-1 except for Lex, Kara and Ryan (who ended up on Maltus in Earth-TUD7 for reasons unknown); they would attempt and succeed in stopping Mar Novu from going forward with his experiment. Barry would then go on and recollect everyone and take them back to the dawn of time itself where Mobius and his army of Shadow Demons awaited them. He then informed them that even though the multiverse was destroyed, the rules of how it functions still remains meaning although they stopped one version of the Monitor, it does not matter and it is completely irrelevent as there are multiple versions of him that exist and in one timeline, one of them due to their ambitions will always go through with the experiment regardless and thus a chain reaction will happen: he travels to the antimatter universe, Mobius will be created, he discovers the multiverse and will destroy it all in any case anyways. The paragons fight off the shadow demons while Oliver and Mobius fight head on. The Paragons then stand together and channel their energies (along with the page from the Book of Destiny) while Oliver while fighting Mobius uses the Spectres' power to absorb and use some antimatter and regular matter around them while unleashing a giant surge of power into the air. Oliver dies on again but with Sara and Barry by his side this time. They then looked up and saw the birth if a new universe.; a white light suddenly appeared and everything went into it.
The new Big Bang.
Everyone then woke up and discovered that they all now reside on a new earth called "Earth-Prime" (which is a combination of three earths of the original multiverse; mainly-1, 38 and TUD5 as well as a good portion from the original Earth-2, 3 and X which respectively count as the fourth, fifth and sixth). However, they unknowingly and are also completely unaware that they actually rebooted the new multiverse (or simply made a new one in it's place all together). They then discovered that Mobius survived the battle with Oliver and had returned in an attempt to renew his destruction of the original multiverse starting with the new Earth (Earth-Prime) itself. However they managed to fight and distract him long enough for Barry, Ray, Ryan and Nash to build a device that shrank Mobius into the Microverse where he can no longer be a threat to anyone or thing anymore indefinitely. The Heroes then formed a new group and made a new headqaurters out of the old S.T.A.R. Labs hall where they all decided to join forces to protect their new world in Oliver's honor.
Post-Crisis[]
With the rebirth of the new multiverse, some things changed: Earths were now separated by a different constant (likely not vibrational frequencies.) As such, the residents of Earth-Prime with knowledge of the pre-crisis timeline appear to be unaware of the new multiverse's existence and still believe it is destroyed. Survivors of some universes began popping up on Earth-Prime; a new universe with aspects of Earth-1, Earth-38, and Earth-TUD5 merged together/into it.[37]
- "I'm sorry; Crisis is over, we beat the bad guy, and you're still worried because...?"
"Because an infinite number of Earths experienced a cosmic heat death from which only one Earth was rebuilt."
"Mm hmm."
"So now, not only do Superman, Supergirl and Black Lightning live here; but now, our entire timeline has been rewritten so that they've always lived here, and I don't remember owning this shirt!"
"Great shirt. Besides; isn't that a good thing; we're all one big happy family now?"
"No. No. No it is not. Not when these guys are crashing the reunion. Not a single one of our doppelgängers survived to make it to Earth-Prime as far as I can tell; but, we did manage to pick up a butt-ton of bad guys, and aliens, and more metas; and you know the best part? The best part is a bunch of our old villains are back with fresh paint jobs!" - —Frost and Cisco Ramon[src]
The Spectre soon realized that along with Earth-Prime, a new multiverse was also created after Crisis. So he started keeping track of the new Earths by numbering them.[38]
Consequences[]
- For more information, see List of changes caused by the Crisis.
- "Thank God J'onn gave me my memories back."
"Yeah, I know, I wish he could do it for everyone."
"Well, according to him, restoring the world's collective memories would reconfigure relationships on such a massive scale that everyone's minds would literally be blown."
"Ugh, gross." - —Alex and Kara Danvers[src]
With the new multiverse being reborn, a tremendous number of changes were caused onto the new Earths (or a few of them had merged and others were entirely replaced) and while a number of people kept or regained their memories through various means, the majority of the population of Earth (Earth-Prime) are not aware of the changes including the knowledge of the new multiverse itself.[37]
The portal to the fractured Phantom Zone.
A handful of doppelgängers made it to Earth-Prime, including one Beth Kane[39], Al and Winn Schott Jr,[40] four Brainiac 5s (one holding his bottled Earth) and a trio of Kryptonian Witches. [41]
Brainiac 5s from multiple original multiverse earths seek refuge in the D.E.O. (Earth-Prime).
Once scattered throughout the original multiverse, the rings of the Fates were now on one Earth (Earth-Prime) and able to create the Loom of Fate;[42] the deities were able to rewrite reality as Loomworld,[43] but were ultimately stopped by the Legends.[44]
- "No. This isn't right. The Phantom Zone's been fractured somehow. Of course. Crisis. When all the timelines converged into one, the opposite must have happened here. It's no longer one pocket dimension, but many; an inter-dimensional archipelago."
- —Querl Dox[src]
During the Anti-Monitor Crisis, the Phantom Zone became fractured; becoming like a structure that is similar to a multiverse itself,[45] but the Superfriends used the Tower as a ship to travel the Phantom Zone and free Supergirl and Zor-El, in which they succeeded. (Nyxlygsptlnz also came along.)[46]
Inter-dimensional travel[]
- "Where I come from, let's just say the two of us have history."
"And where is that exactly?"
"Nowhere now. My world was destroyed. But somehow, I managed to survive." - —John Henry Irons to Superman of Earth-TUD25[src]
During Superman's attack on Earth (Earth-TUD22), the crisis destroyed Earth-TUD22 but opened an antimatter wormhole, causing John Henry Irons and his daughter Natalie to take refuge on Earth-TUD25.[47][48]
Earth-TUD22 is destroyed by antimatter.

After Iris West-Allen told her brother Wally about Team Flash's recent battle against the Red Death, an alternate Ryan Wilder, Wally started to project his consciousness into the Speed Force to find "alternate timelines", hoping to find a version of himself that could teach him how to let go of all his baggage, but he was unsuccessful. Is later revealed that what Wally saw on the Speed Force weren't only alternate timelines, but other earths.[38]
- "Where's Barry?"
"He's in Lian Yu. I've been trying to radio him, but that place is a total dead zone."
"What about those clicky things you guys use?"
"The extrapolators don't work. Now that the multiverse is gone, the physics behind breaching has changed entirely." - —Allegra Garcia and Cisco Ramon discuss how interdimensional extrapolators have become useless post-Crisis.[src]
Also, the laws of physics were completely altered meaning interdimensional travel for most people now meaning it is no longer possible to open portals to other universes and their respective earths as well as other dimensions that they may have potentially before; they also can no longer open breaches to other locations on the same earth (use smoke bombs instead for this) or any other planet in the same universe (use Transmatter portals instead for that) either for that matter; However, this only applies to vibers and a few various technological or temporal devices and gateways; it appears that speedsters, deities, certain meta-humans and users of magic as well as some of the other technological devices like Transmatter portal watches and Tele-Spheres for example are still able to perform this function to open temporal wormholes, including potentially the Temporal zone, The Speed Force and it's negative counterpart as well as The Fifth Dimension itself.
Time-Travel appears to have been unaffected by the crisis as the Waverider and other various time-travelling timeships and devices are still able to do so without any problems/issues or complications with temporal wormholes.
The Inverse World[]
- "She put something in my tea and had me cross over to this other world where I saw another version of myself. It was a really intense trip, and trust me, I've had a few. My junior year was pretty wild—jam bands, mushrooms, Birkenstock Kevin—[...] But this was something else entirely. It was everything your sister said—a different dimension, a parallel universe—whatever you wanna call it, it's real."
- —Chrissy Beppo to Lois Lane[src]
The portal to the Inverse World.
A portal in the Smallville Shuster Mine leads to the Inverse World, a "bizzare" alternate dimension to Earth-TUD25. Ally Allston wears her family pendant as a way for her followers to go there. It differs from Earth-TUD25 in a number of ways, such as having a red sun and square Earth.
The Inverse Society tries to merge with their shadow selves.
After stealing the pendant of the Inverse World's Ally Allston, Bizarre Kal-El went to Earth-TUD25 to destroy it before they could merge together.[48][49] The pendants were later fused by Mitch Anderson, but the combined Oblivion Stone was destroyed by Superman and Tal-Rho.
Inside the portal to the Inverse World.
Later, Ally Allston managed to merge with her Inverse World counterpart and she becomes a god-like being. Eventually, Ally began to merge the worlds,[50] but she was defeated by Superman and the worlds were separated.[51]
Force Wars[]
Bloodwork Crisis[]
Ramsey Rosso infected the new multiverse with his cells.
On Barry Allen's birthday, Ramsey Rosso planned to spread his infectious cells throughout the new multiverse by infecting Wally West, who could use his ability to project his consciousness into the Speed Force to let Ramsey access other Earths. Ramsey eventually infected Wally's brain, so the young speedster opened a breach to the new multiverse in Central City (Earth-Prime), allowing Bloodwork to feed it his infectious cells. The Green Arrow later shot a Spectre infused arrow to the breach after telling Ramsey that he "failed this city", cleansing the whole new multiverse of Bloodwork's infectious cells and himself too; ironically curing Ramsey of his HLH disease but depleting his powers.[38]

Trivia[]
- In "Untouchable", Barry Allen asks how Cisco Ramon is going to vibe Flashpoint, if that event no longer exists. Cisco and H.R. Wells then explain that there might be a different Earth where Flashpoint was never undone, because the daughter universe theory in quantum mechanics says "for every decision you make, a universe exists where you don't". However, this is inconsistent with how Cisco's vibers' powers work, as he was previously able to vibe the timeline of Earth-1 where he was killed by Eobard Thawne, which also didn't exist anymore. Therefore, it is unknown if the Timeline of Earth-1#Flashpoint timeline Cisco vibed was truly a different Earth or not; However it cannot be ruled out if it was or not; the same also applies to the Reverse Flashpoint (event)'s timeline of Earth-Prime as well and for the original multiverse (in both pre and post-crisis).
- According to Barry and Cisco respectively, following the events of the Anti-Monitor Crisis; the new multiverse no longer exists, as Earth-Prime is the only parallel universe in existence. But unbeknownst to anyone (at the time); when the late Oliver Queen as Spectre created Earth-Prime, he also rebooted the original multiverse (or completely birthed a new one); by restoring some of the old parallel universes (or created new and identical ones in their place) and also creating new ones (earths and univeres) as well, thus, the new multiverse (or rebooted one) still exists. However, Team Flash (Earth-Prime) eventually learned approximately three years after the Crisis that more universes than Earth-Prime had been re/created.[38]
Behind the scenes[]
- The number of breaches that opened in Central City (Earth-1) being 52,[73] as well as a certain Earth-N52 itself, is a reference to both the multiverse crisis storyline known as 52 and The New 52 imprint in the DC Comics.
- Harrison Wells and Jay Garrick both stated that there were an infinite number of Earths in the multiverse. On the other hand, Kara Danvers claimed that there were only 52 of them but Wells himself corrected her, describing Earth-X as a 53rd Earth, indicating that, aside for Earth-X, there were 53 known Earths in the multiverse.[4] Since then, these have expanded to at least 1,938 universes.
- In the DC Comics, this has been explained with the introduction of a "local multiverse" concept, consisting of 52 universes, and infinite universes in other multiverses that are outside of the prime multiverse. Later on, all of these multiverses were revealed to be apart of a larger omniverse as a small section of it which has also been called a omniverse.
- During an interview, the producers of the NBC television show Powerless, jokingly referred to the multiverse by saying that their show takes place on "Earth-P" as it was a DC Comics comedy. [citation needed] This is of course, unofficial and they actually revealed, at the time of the interview, that there were no plans to crossover with any other DC property; the show has since been canceled.
- In the mobile version of the Injustice 2 game, Black Lightning is named "Multiverse Black Lightning" just like the rest of the Arrowverse characters, indicating that he exist in the Arrowverse.
- This was confirmed in Crisis on Infinite Earths, which continued from Black Lightning Season 3 episode "The Book of Resistance: Chapter Four: Earth Crisis".
- With all of it being confirmed this would mean that the Injustice Universe is designated somewhere in the Arrowverse Multiverse.
- The official young adults' novel series, written by Barry Lyga, starting with The Flash: Hocus Pocus, and including the Supergirl trilogy novels written by Jo Whittemore, take place in a multiverse that had splintered from the main "Arrowverse" during Flashpoint. Lyga refers to this multiverse as the "Barryverse".[74] The Barryverse follows a version of Arrowverse history where the Flashpoint event never took place. Respectively, the transmultiversal multiverse is set on Earth-1A and Earth-38A for each series.
- When Cisco Ramon of Earth-1 meets the Cisco from the Barryverse, he explains that the splintering Flashpoint seperated from Earth-1 and created Earth-1A, respectively.[8] Furthermore, the characters of the Barryverse refer to the original multiverse as the "TV world", thus differentiating the novel canon and the television canon. The characters of the Barryverse also learn of the Infinite Earths Crisis, which does not affect their multiverse but is happening simultaneously to their Anti-Matter Crisis.[75]
- Just as the Infinite Earths Crisis resulted in the merging of multiple Earths into Earth-Prime, the Anti-Matter Crisis resulted in the creation of Earth-∂ from numerous Earths from the transmultiversal multiverse, including Earth-1A and Earth-38A. Due to the acknowledgement of Green Lantern, it is possible that Earth-12A (an as-of-yet unconfirmed Earth) also became part of the foundation of this Earth.[75]
- The Time Trapper from Earth-1A is aware of both multiverses co-existing. He refers to both of them as being halves of a "megaverse".[75]
- A version of Superman from the DCAU also known as 'Justice Lord Superman' is one of the characters shown in the council of Supermen, which would also suggest that DCAU is retroactively a part of the Arrowverse Multiverse.
- A version of Lex Luthor from Super Friends is one of the characters shown in the council of Luthors, which would suggest that Super Friends is retroactively a part of the Arrowverse Multiverse.
- In the episode of Titans called "Dude Where's My Gar", the Harley Quinn animated series and Teen Titans Go! show were both seen in some of the universes in the Multiverse, which would mean that they are both technically apart of the Arrowverse Multiverse. This also includes the Harley Quinn spin-off series Kite-Man: Hell Yeah! as well. This seems to indicate that the new multiverse contains realities that are both based in live-action and animation.
- The comic book series "The Flash: Season Zero" has been confirmed to be non-canon. This incidates that this continuity is most likely set in an unknown parallel universe somewhere else in the Multiverse (however, its designation is unknown).
- This also applies to some of the Arrow novels, both Arrow: A Generation of Vipers and Arrow: Vengeance; they are based on the Arrowverse that includes characters from Arrow, DC's Legends of Tomorrow and The Flash, as some of the events and information that are depicted in the books do not align with the continuity of the TV shows themselves thus making them non-canon as well.
- This includes the Arrow and Arrow: Season 2.5 comic book series (including their continuity/ies) as well. This means that all of these books are set in their own separate parallel universes in the multiverse too (however, all of their designations are unknown as well).
- Also, all other characters and any doppelgangers of certain individuals in non-canon material are included as well as they are all most likely set in each of their own separate universes too. However they could instead be considered adjacent or retroactively added through the multiverse itself in any case.
- In The Black Lightning episode "The Book of Resistance: Chapter Four: Earth Crisis" (Season 3-episode 9), The two other Earths that were shown and introduced here aren't named as officially designated Earth-1 and Earth-2; They're just called "Earth 1" and "Earth 2" on the screen to distinguish them from one another. This could open up a discussion about each of their position in the multiverse as this could indicate that they were/or could have been two completely different universes whose designations sound the same but are actually spelled out differently. The various Earths in the DC comics multiverses each have similar designations; however the spellings that include numbers, symbols and letters for each of them are all different (Examples: Earth Two, Earth 2, Earth-2, Earth-Two, Earth -2/Earth One, Earth 1, Earth-1, Earth-One, Earth -1, etc) which helps to distinguish them all from one another. In any case, they were both destroyed along with every other earth in the multiverse by a wave of antimatter during the crisis regardless,/or by the end of the episode, and 1/TUD5 then were merged into Earth-Prime along with 38. Also, another reason on why this was most likely the case is that these characters (who were really just alternate versions/doppelgängers of people from Earth-TUD5) as well as the events that they were involved in have never been shown or mentioned/referenced by the other shows and characters who were originally from these other two former earths. It is possible that this may apply to other earths throughout the multiverse (pre and post-crisis) as well.
- In "Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part One", it was revealed that the future Star City 2046 that the legends travelled to was actually the timeline of another alternate Earth which stemmed and diverged from Earth-1 and it's timeline that resulted in an unfortunate dystopian future. However, following the Crisis, it could not exist anymore due to both universes being destroyed by the wave of antimatter and the former indefinitely after a new version of the latter Earth-1 being made and the former/original one was merged into Earth-Prime with a handful of other earths (Earth-1 together with 38, TUD5, 3, 2 and X mainly).
- It is possible that this may also apply to other earths throughout the multiverse (pre and post-crisis) as well.
- The whole Arrowverse Franchise and other various films and TV Shows are set up in a shared Multiverse which makes them all adjacent to one another like many other DC Comics Properties are as well since they each are set up in their very own (examples include the original comics books, The Tomorrowverse, Smallville, My Adventures with Superman as well as many other animated/and live-action shows, films, books and video games, etc).
- It is possible that altering the timeline and reality in the new multiverse much like the old one could result in the creation of new timelines and therefore universes in the process. This means that events like Flashpoint, Reverse Flashpoint, Loom world, Doom world and various Elseworlds still happened however they now occured on other earths now instead.
- Magog is the only known individual in the Arrowverse to be able to travel from the new multiverse to the original multiverse, which was destroyed by antimatter which should be impossible. How he has this ability is unknown. However, with the introduction of the series of books called the Barry Verse which has introduced another set of the multiverse that is called the Transmultiversal multiverse means that it is possible that another or more sets of multiverses may exist as well including one where perhaps no Flashpoint or Crisis event ever occurred which is possible and therefore can not be ruled out. DC Comics has introduced a small Omniverse of it's own which contains various sets of multiverses which is most likely the case.
- Also, certain Earths like the new Earth-2 and 167 show that in every multiverse in the DC Comics Omniverse does and can contain similar realities that identical to each other with every constant; Examples include Smallville, the original comic books, My Adventures with Superman, the animated films, etc who have all shown that they each have and are set in their own separate multiverses.
- It is possible that some of the universes in the pre-crisis multiverse who had a live-action form were replaced by animated ones (including stop motion or claymation). This also includes others like the new Earth-2 which is based on the one from the original comic book multiverse.
- One example of this is potentially Earth-16 which may have been replaced by a identical universe that contains the animated show "Young Justice" including it's constants (i.e. characters, setting, history, etc).
