"Closer" is the first episode of the third season of Superman & Lois, and the thirty-first episode overall. It aired on March 14, 2023.
Synopsis
| Season three of Superman & Lois opens weeks after Superman’s blowout defeat of Ally Allston. Clark and Lois are now working at the Smallville Gazette together and enjoying small town life. But the Kents’ romantic bliss only shines a light on how isolating 'the secret' can be, as Chrissy struggles to balance a new love interest and her friendship with Lois. However, Lois' own work-life balance is put to the test when an undercover assignment reveals a deadly foe that promises to change the Kent family forever. Superman would move heaven and earth for his family, but with a villain this merciless, even that might not be enough. Meanwhile, the Kent boys find themselves being pulled in opposite directions. Amid all this upheaval, John Henry is haunted by his doppelgänger's past, leading to dangerous consequences for him and Natalie. Lana Lang and Kyle redefine their family post-separation, while Sarah explores what the future holds for her and Jordan now that she knows the truth about his powers. Having learned the hard way that no one else can be trusted to work with Superman, General Samuel Lane reclaims his post at the Department of Defense, only to face his own conflict in working with his grandson, Jordan.[src] |

Trivia
- This is the first episode of Superman & Lois to not feature Jordan Elsass (Jonathan Kent) due to the actor leaving the show.
- This leaves only four main cast members to appear in every episode: Tyler Hoechlin (Clark Kent), Elizabeth Tulloch (Lois Lane), Alex Garfin (Jordan Kent), and Emmanuelle Chriqui (Lana Lang Cushing).
- However, as Emmanuelle Chriqui (Lana-Rho) only portrayed the Inverse World version of Lana in "Bizarros in a Bizarro World" and Jordan Elsass was replaced by Michael Bishop starting with this episode, this still leaves only four characters to appear in every episode: Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Jonathan Kent, and Jordan Kent.
- Mechano-Man, Titano, and Atomic Skull were shown via holograms.
- The episode's title is a reference to the last line of the episode given by Bruno Mannheim, "We're getting "closer"," which Lois also said in the beginning of the episode.
- The character of Mr. Carver from the Slaughter Cabin films shares the same name as the villain from Dylan Walsh Sam Lane's previous show Nip/Tuck, in which its name is also referenced in DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 4 episode "Nip/Stuck".
- Natalie says, "I still can't believe they killed Kenny in the last one," (presumably referring to a previous installment of the film series) while waiting in line. This may be a reference to the popular line, "Oh my God! They killed Kenny!" (don't confuse him with Supergirl's Kenny Li, or any other character named Kenny) from South Park.
- As stated by Lois for a Smallville Gazette report, this episode takes place 27 days after "Waiting for Superman".
