"Krypton's not just a place, it's a spirit. It's hope. It's sacrifice. It's what our parents did for us. What you did for Jonathan. We have made our parents proud by fighting for what's right. So, we have to keep fighting. And as long as that spirit is alive, Krypton will never die."
Kara Zor-El/Supergirl to Kal-El/Superman[src]

Kryptonians are a humanoid species that hail from the destroyed planet Krypton. While Kryptonians may not look like much, they are one of the most powerful alien races in the universe of Earth-Prime with only the likes of Green Martians, Daxamites, Jarhanpurians, Traxonians and Kalanorians being able to challenge them. Most that remain have come to try and settle on Earth, fled to other worlds or were trapped in the Phantom Zone.[1] On Earth-38, A large community of Kryptonians also once existed in Argo City, until an antimatter wave vanquished it. However, the city was later re-created on Earth-Prime.

Overview

Technology

.

Fortress of Solitude (Earth-38).

The technology of Kryptonians is known to be thousands of years ahead of anything found on Earth. Examples of this would be how they have mastered the use of interstellar travel, conjuring holograms and sunstone crystals' A.I. consciousnesses through the use of crystals,[2] Technology that allows them to open up portals leading to a dimensional plane known as the Phantom Zone which they used as a prison,[3] and their weapons were also extremely advanced, most likely energy based. The clothing of Krypton's inhabitants has also proven to be extremely durable and able to withstand a great deal of abuse.

(On Earth-38:) While not much else is known about Kryptonians, whatever is currently known about Kryptonians is gained through the Fortress of Solitude as well as Kara's memories. The race on Krypton was described as one of the explorers, philosophers and scientists.

Beliefs and religions

The .

The Worldkillers.

Some Kryptonians were known for their arrogance and self-righteous attitudes, as well as for being deceptive and hypocritical feeling little to no remorse for their actions at all, and their tendencies on being quick to judge others. Also, when Kara's mother Alura used her daughter as a means to arrest Astra, she felt no guilt for this at all as she believed the end justified the means.[4][5]

Despite some of these negative traits, most Kryptonians, such as Jor-El, Astra, Kal-El and Kara Zor-El, are polite, humble, modest and respectful, they also have a sense of justice, honor and good morals; to the point of having guilt, shame and remorse for their actions.

Kryptonian ancient polytheistic traditions speak of malicious beings called Worldkillers; literally the destroyer of worlds, who were born of the Old Gods and will bring on armageddon (event) for Kryptonians and the planets they inhabit.[6]

Kryptonians have a monotheistic world religion which centers around the worship a monotheistic Sun Deity called Rao. When Kryptonians pass, their bodies are sent on a celestial journey with their close loved ones so that they could be received by their sun god, Rao towards the afterlife. Where on Earth (Earth-38), humans say the term "Thank God", the Kryptonian equivalent is "Thank Rao".[7][8]

Physical appearance

Despite hailing from another planet, Kryptonians are indistinguishable from humans. Twins were very uncommon in Kryptonians. The last known case of twins to hail from Krypton (Earth-38) were Alura and Astra. on Earth-TUD25, The most recent recorded case of twins with Kryptonian DNA are Jonathan and Jordan Kent (both hybrids with a human parent, with Clark Kent as the father).

History

 before its destruction.

Krypton before its destruction.

Hundreds of years ago on Earth-38, the Kryptonians fought a bloody war to a stalemate against the Daxamites. Thousands of lives were lost on both sides. The actual cause for the war remains unknown, with both sides insisting that the other started it.[9]

At some point in their history, the Kryptonians must have made contact with the Martians on Mars, as Astra immediately recognized J'onn J'onzz as a Green Martian and knew very well about their genocide, while her husband apparently feared the White Martians.[10][11]

After the destruction of Krypton (Earth-38), most of Kryptonians that are still alive now resides on Argo City, while other took refuge on Earth (Earth-38) or are probably still within the Phantom Zone.[12]

Supergirl and Superman.

Supergirl and Superman.

Superman, a Kryptonian who has been raised on Earth (Earth-38) since he was little more than a new born, uses his immense superhuman powers for the citizens of Metropolis (Earth-38) and thus, over time, has become a symbol of American heroism. Superman has earned the highest esteem and respected wherever he goes, be it from his greatest friends or greatest foes. While there will always be people who criticize Supergirl for some of her hypocrisies, the people of Earth (Earth-38) respect Superman too much to criticize even his smallest flaws and errors.[1]

Other than Superman and Supergirl, other surviving Kryptonians have visited Earth (Earth-38) and have even orchestrated plots for world domination, even on Earth (Earth-TUD25). These include Zod (also for Earth-TUD25), Astra, Non, Samantha Arias/Reign, Julia Freeman/Purity and Grace Parker/Pestilence respectively.[1][6]

During the Anti-Monitor Crisis, an antimatter wave vanquished Argo City along with its inhabitants on December 10, 2019,[13] only to be restored a month later, after the Paragons and the Spectre created a new universe.[13]
