"You have the hubris of the great House of El, which blinds you to the truth. Humanity is a disease. Myriad is the cure."
—Non to Supergirl[src]

General Non (died May 2016), is a Kryptonian criminal, warlord, former military lieutenant, and inmate of Fort Rozz. He was the widower of the late Astra and the second-in-command of their army, though after her death he seems to have taken over her role as commander, becoming Supergirl's enemy. Upon nearly succeeding in eliminating all humans on Earth, Non was blinded by Supergirl.

Biography

Early life

Non was born on the planet Krypton, where he become a military lieutenant and fell in love with his commanding officer, Astra, who later become his wife,[1] although he was not always faithful to her, secretly having an affair with Indigo.[2] Also, he apparently never really got along with his wife's family.[3]

Rebellion and imprisonment

After she learned that Krypton was dying because of its resources being too heavily exploited, Astra tried to prevent it and, when she couldn't gain support from the government, both she and Non took matters into their own hands committing several extreme crimes.

During one of their actions Non killed a guard, prompting Alura Zor-El to lure them out of hiding with a trick, arrest them for their crimes[1] and sentencing them both to imprisonment in Fort Rozz.[4]

Escape to Earth

After Fort Rozz crashed in a field in Nevada; United States (Earth-38)/on Earth, releasing all of the prisoners. Astra and Non established an army in the hopes of seeking revenge on Alura.[5]

While the D.E.O. and Supergirl are occupied with battling and capturing Astra, Non and his men attacked Lord Technologies, and he was about to kill Alex Danvers before Kara arrived to fight him.[1]

However Non proved to be the superior in terms of physical power and began strangling her, "Hank Henshaw" tried to intervene in the fight but was abducted by Non. Later Non killed a mind-reading alien who found "Hank" impervious to his abilities. Non agreed to exchange the D.E.O.'s director for Astra, but after the trade is made, he sprung an ambush; however, Astra called off the attack, demanding that a reluctant Non honor the agreement, though it is not a truce, then Astra and Non leaves with their soldiers.[3]

Death of Astra

As the Kryptonians prepared for the next phase of their mission - "Myriad", Non revealed to Astra that he had incapacitated Kara with "Black Mercy", thus technically did not disobey Astra's order for her to be unharmed, but she was displeased regardless.

Non and Astra briefed their soldiers, armed with anti-Kryptonite suits, about their campaign they fought for on Krypton, now to be completed on Earth. After they left, Non questions Astra's whereabouts prior and her dedication to their war, Astra tensely affirmed it, so he apologized and left. The Kryptonians attacked the D.E.O. satellites and connect them to their device, Non is confronted by Kara, who furiously pummeled him screaming about how he took her world away from her and thought he could do the same to Earth; strangely, Non barely fights back but still managed to activate his device.

Kara and Non continued to fight and Non claimed Myriad will "cure" Earth of humanity, he sabotaged the satellite dish and escaped while Kara caught it. Non eventually grew tired of the battle and blew Kara away with his heat vision. As he came back to their base, Non discovered that Astra was killed in battle by Alex using a Kryptonite blade, and a soldier informed him that the Myriad is operational and she did not die in vain.[6]

The following day Non came to Kara's apartment to ask her to come with him on behalf of Astra, which she agreed despite Alex's protests. Up in the sky, the funeral for Astra was held; then Non told Kara he would hold a period for mourning, and vowed to kill her after it was over.[7]

Non met with Indigo but he wasn't in the mood to flirt with her as he still grieving over Astra's death. Indigo told Non that Astra's notion of living alongside the humans can't work, and vows to change that so she and the Kryptonians can be only ones left on Earth. After Indigo was destroyed by Supergirl, Non, using the Omegahedron, places it on a computer and a new version of Indigo begins to materialize, but in pieces, with Non saying that he wants her to do things his way.[2]

Non finally executed his plan on Earth, beginning with National City. He sent out a signal from the Myriad program that took over the minds of all residents,[8] minus Kara, Maxwell Lord and Cat Grant. He intended to expand his domain to other cities, intending to enslave the entire population and make them all work as one. Superman flies to National City after hearing Supergirl's distress call, only to fall victim to the mind control. When Indigo captures Alex Danvers, he uses her to fight Supergirl as revenge for Astra.[9] However, J'onn J'onzz brings Eliza Danvers in time to talk Alex out of it and simultaneously breaks her free from the enslavement.[10]

Supergirl broadcasts a speech throughout the city that helps the residents break free, effectively ending Non's brief domain. With prompting from Indigo, Non decides to utilize the Myriad wave to destroy mankind, instead. After discovering Non's plan, Supergirl and J'onn fly to Fort Rozz where they fight Non and Indigo. Non seems to gain the upper hand before Supergirl overpowers his heat vision, blinding him.[10]

It is unknown what happened to Non afterwards, but he either died of his wounds or was imprisoned for his crimes.

Personality

Non is extremely stubborn, rude and vindictive, even to his family, although he did care about Astra and was saddened by her death and determined to carry on for her memory. He also cares about the welfare of the planet, as he wants to rule it and misanthropically believes the planet is being destroyed by humanity.

Like most Kryptonians, Non is extremely arrogant, prideful, self-righteous and hypocritical; as he always tries to blame others for the problems he caused. He also firmly believes that enslaving the human race is the only solution to save the Earth, and because of this he does not have a good relationship with his niece Kara due to the fact that she is allied with the humans.

Non is also quite immoral as he had no qualms about enslaving the minds of the human race. He is also not afraid to go behind the back of his superior, although she was his wife, as Astra ordered that Kara was not to be hurt, but he used Black Mercy on Supergirl, to try to prevent her from interfering with his plans. He had no guilt or remorse for this, showing he was willing to do whatever was necessary to complete his goal, regardless of who he hurt.
