Kryptonese has a distinct set of characters for writing, known as the Kryptonian alphabet. The alphabet consists of at least 26 characters, with each one corresponding to one of the 26 letters of the English language. Other variations contain letters that correspond to sounds, punctuation or suffixes, among other additions to words. [4][5]
In the DC Extended Universe, the House of El family coat of arms is not "el mayarah" (stronger together) but rather the symbol for hope, mistaken by humans as the letter "S" (some variations have the kryptonese S to look extremely similar to that symbol).
G and M appear respectively, left to right.
The Kryptonese used in episodes 2, 6, 7, and 13 of Season 3 is a fan-made conlang created by Darren Doyle, who is yet to be credited for it. All information on the language can be found at kryptonian.info. He has created several pages breaking down and correcting the phrases used in canon. The languages themselves can be checked and referenced at the link http://kryptonian.info/fonts.html , along with other DC publications/releases' variations or types, and other fonts such as Interlac: two letters were once used inside the Legion's cruiser.[12]
Most other instances of this writing are randomly generated sequences of symbols, written with a similar script (used for direct transliteration from each alphabet letter, but usually not for native Kryptonese words). However, sometimes the writing is able to be translated into meaningful sentences, as shown in an inscription and transcription:
During Lex Luthor's trial in "American Alien", he was seen to write a few letters in Kryptonese. It has been decoded (with some gaps) into "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy".[13]
