Bartholomew Henry "Barry" Allen (March 14, 1989 - May 23, 2017) was a time remnant of the original Barry Allen from an erased potential future who became a powerful armored speedster known as Savitar. Savitar's existence is the result of a causal loop that involved Iris West's death, as the time remnant was shunned after he was created. Broken and utterly alone, he desired to end his pain by becoming a god. Renaming himself after the Hindu God of Motion, he has proclaimed himself to be the "God of Speed" in the entire multiverse, while he was additionally known as the "Dark Lord" within his own cult, was known as "Alchemy" while controlling Julian Albert to be the high priest of his cult, and subtly referred to himself as the "Future Flash" when battling a younger version of his other self.

Desiring to kill his other self, Savitar was defeated and trapped in the Speed Force. Spending an eternity inside the Speed Force, he planned his escape by tricking Wally West/Kid Flash into taking his place in the Speed Force prison, allowing him to resume his war with the Flash and kill Iris to ensure his existence. Savitar later forms an alliance with Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost during which his identity and the origin of his existence become known to Team Flash. Savitar then murders H.R. Wells, thus causing him to slowly be erased from existence. He ultimately continues his ascension towards godhood by having Cisco Ramon/Vibe modify the Speed Force bazooka in order to split himself through time and exist through every moment of history but his plan fails and after a brief battle he was shot by Iris before being erased from existence.

Eventually, Savitar was plucked from his timeline by Eddie Thawne/Cobalt Blue and joined forces with a group of speedsters to kill his other self. Savitar fought Nora West-Allen/XS who was able to defeat him and Savitar was returned to his proper place in the timeline when Eddie stole his power.

Original multiverse

Origins

Savitar shares the same past as the version of Barry Allen of the current timeline up to the point of Iris West's death. However, Team Flash still went against Clifford DeVoe, using the cerebral inhibitor against him.^[1] At some point later, Barry pushed Team Flash away. During his final fight with Savitar around 2020/2021, Barry created time remnants to help. Savitar slaughtered most of the time remnants, but spared only one time remnant as this time remnant was going to become Savitar at some point in the future. Barry then trapped Savitar in the Speed Force prison. Afterwards, the time remnant was shunned by Barry's loved ones because he was an aberration and not 'real'. Alone and overwhelmed by his painful memories, he became desperate to end his pain eventually coming to a realization that "God" feels no pain and he eventually decided to become one himself. Savitar's existence was the result of a causal loop in which he has no beginning or end but only an endless series of events that lead to his creation.^[2][3]

At some point, the time remnant found the Philosopher's Stone and made himself a mechanical suit of armor, both of which became a part of his power, and he eventually named himself "Savitar" aka the "God of Speed" who was worshipped as a deity.^[4]

Imprisoned in the Speed Force

Desiring revenge for being shunned, Savitar traveled to 2020/2021 during which his other self created time remnants, including his own younger self. Savitar killed all of the time remnants, but spared his younger self so that he would eventually become him, thus continuing the loop of his existence. However, just like during his creation, his other self was able to defeat Savitar by imprisoning him inside the Speed Force, during which Savitar was stuck in a time loop in which he relived the most painful moment of his life, driving him further into insanity and thus wanting him to destroy his other self's life even further.^[5][6]

During his time imprisoned, the legend of Savitar was spread throughout the multiverse and across the timeline.^[3] With the lie of his power being the first speedster to ever be granted power to the Speed Force, he eventually became the fastest out of all of the speedsters, challenging other powerful speedsters who threatened his power to battle before taking over their Earths. Before each encounter, he would use the Philosopher's Stone's power to possess a person to use a medium under the "Alchemy" alias, to prepare for arrival, by creating meta-humans for him to command.^[4]

Preparation for freedom from the Speed Force

While he was imprisoned in the Speed Force, Savitar sensed a dramatic shift in the timeline that resulted in the Flashpoint timeline. Realizing that he could use the situation to his advantage, Savitar waited until the timeline was restored to a similar previous form and began to enact his plan. After the Flashpoint timeline had been erased, he telepathically appeared to Julian Albert in the form of the man's deceased sister Emma, telling Julian of the Philosopher's Stone which could bring Emma back. Julian spent years searching for the Philosopher's Stone and funded an exhibition in India in 2012 and found the container the object was sealed within, resulting in Savitar being released and possessing Julian while killing the exhibition's other members. Julian tried to escape by fleeing to America, but Savitar continually possessed his host unwillingly as a version of Alchemy. For the next few years, Savitar sought out followers for his cult, seeking to slay a younger, less powerful version of his other self.^[4] He also was somehow aware of all the meta-humans from the Flashpoint timeline which unintentionally provided him the means for his return.

Under his Alchemy guise, Savitar began seeking out individuals who were meta-humans in the Flashpoint timeline and restored these individuals' memories and extorted them into finding him. Once they did, Savitar promised to restore their power in exchange for their loyalty. He did this to "Shade" and Clive Yorkin. Savitar then sought out Frankie Kane, a teenage girl with dissociative identity disorder due to the restored memories, persuading Frankie to find him. Once Frankie did, Alchemy offered to restore these powers in exchange for services. Frankie was reluctant while the alternate personality Magenta agreed and Alchemy restored these powers.

Savitar then communicated with Edward Clariss and restored the man's memories as a speedster known as The Rival, and told where to find him.^[7] Clariss arrived and begged Alchemy to make the visions stop, but Alchemy asked if Clariss really wanted the visions to stop, or if Edward wanted the visions to come true and to have speed once more. Clariss confessed wanting the speed and Alchemy promised to restore this power, in exchange for loyalty. He used the Philosopher's Stone on Clariss in order to be The Rival once more.

Alchemy observed as the Rival fought the Flash, which ended in a draw, though the Flash was unaware Alchemy was watching the two speedsters. Later when the Flash confronted the Rival at the Prescott Sawmill, Alchemy attacked the Flash. Upon being asked what he wanted, he claimed to be helping people achieve their potential because he was preparing Earth-1. After the Rival was defeated by the combined power of the Flash and Vibe, Clariss was incarcerated in Iron Heights Penitentiary to which Savitar scolded Clariss for failure. Clariss begged for a second chance, but Savitar appeared inside Clariss's cell and attacked Clariss.^[8] After tossing Clariss around, he struck a fatal blow that killed Clariss before hitting the ground.

Alchemy was later confronted by Magenta, being angry that Frankie continued to resurface, as Alchemy had promised freedom from Frankie and the girl's foster father. Alchemy told Magenta that if the latter wanted Frankie gone, Magenta would have to show who was in control, and this led to Magenta almost destroying a hospital full of innocent people to get revenge on Frankie's foster father. Unfortunately for Alchemy, Frankie was talked out of this by the Flash and left as a result.^[9]

Alchemy then sought out restore Wally West's memories as a meta-human. Knowing Barry would do all to prevent Wally from finding him, he sent Shade as a distraction while he communicated with Wally and urged to seek him out. When Wally locked himself in the Pipeline, he began torturing the youth to persuade him, but to no avail. When Shade was captured, he simply began torturing Wally more intensely until the youth eventually sought him out.

Encountering a younger version of The Flash

In an effort to lure Alchemy into a trap, Team Flash and a strike team followed secretly as Wally approached Alchemy about the visions. Wally stalled Alchemy long enough to allow the police and the Flash to storm the hideout. Alchemy and his cohorts were subsequently surrounded and shackled. The Flash triumphantly stood before Alchemy and went to unmask his host. But just as the Flash was about to do so, an earthquake shook the hideout and suddenly a small blip of light began racing around the hideout, killing all of the cops and freeing Alchemy's followers. The Flash realized the blip of light was a speedster and attempted to pursue, but the speed was far beyond anything and the Flash was brought down instead. As Wally became trapped in a cocoon-like container, Savitar pinned the Flash to a wall, revealing himself to be clad entirely in metallic armor. As the Flash finally beheld the armored foe, Savitar responded that he was the god of speed. Savitar then produced a long curved blade from his gauntlet and prepared to finish off the Flash.^[10]

Luckily, the Flash was saved at the last second by Joe West's timely intervention by managing to shake off the cult followers, and opened fire on Savitar even though Joe couldn't actually see the speedster. The bullets, however, deflected harmlessly off Savitar's armor. Ignoring the interruption, Savitar raced out of the lair with the Flash in hand and proceeded to drag, pummel and throw his opponent all across Central City like a rag-doll, by using the Speed Force to travel to various locations around Central City, finally coming to a stop at the waterfront, whereupon Savitar began to savagely beat down his quarry. As the Flash lay broken and bleeding at his feet, Savitar declared the Flash to be beneath him and announced that he was the "Future Flash" while his younger self was the past. Having said this, he grabbed the Flash by the throat and prepared to once again skewer the speedster with his gauntlet-blade. Before he could do so, however, the Flash was saved by Vibe's sudden arrival and Caitlin's ice-powers freezing Savitar in place which revealed him, but inadvertently harmed the Flash too. The ice, though, didn't last long and Savitar soon burst out of his ice-prison and sped off.

Savitar later sought out Julian while Julian was in the hospital. Julian told Savitar to stay away, but Savitar confronted him anyway and said to his host that only together could his return be achieved. Savitar then possessed Julian and retrieved the Alchemy outfit at C.C.P.D. to continue his plan.^[11]

Fighting the Flashes

With Julian resuming the Alchemy persona, Savitar prepared once again to target the Flash. He ordered Alchemy to use a specially-designed building in Central City to refract the energies from the Philosopher's Stone and bestow powers on all the meta-humans in Central City from the Flashpoint timeline at once. Their efforts were interrupted once again by the arrival of the two Flashes; Barry joined forces with Jay Garrick/The Flash. Before the two Flashes could do anything to Alchemy, Savitar appeared out of nowhere. While Alchemy dealt with his younger self, Savitar squared off against the Flash. Savitar completely outmatched the Flash, viciously pummeling and beating down the elder speedster all across Central City, finally coming to a stop in an alley. The metallic speedster angrily pointed out that it wasn't Jay's fight, and unsheathed his gauntlet blade to kill the Earth-3 veteran speedster. The Flash was saved, however, when his younger self sealed the Philosopher's Stone back in its chest, causing Savitar to disappear into thin air.

Looking to continue the fight, Savitar chose to bide his time in order to figure out a way back. He began using Dante Ramon's likeness and memory while telepathically manipulating Cisco into thinking that the Philosopher's Stone could bring Dante back to life. Entranced by the Philosopher's Stone's power, Cisco opened the chest which released Savitar once again just as his younger self arrived in Cisco's lab. Savitar then seized the Flash to a speedster training site, whereupon he began to mercilessly beat up the Earth-1 speedster yet again. He was stalled by the youth's sudden arrival, but was merely seized by the throat by Savitar and thrown across the room into his younger self. As the two speedsters lay defeated on the ground, Savitar unsheathed both of his wrist blades and moved to kill both speedsters. However, this was prevented at the last second when Caitlin convinced Cisco to accept Dante's death and close the chest containing the Philosopher's Stone which sealed Savitar away again.

Fuming from his latest defeat and Alchemy's constant failures, Savitar suddenly felt Julian's consciousness connected to the Philosopher's Stone, established a psychic connection through Julian and found himself face-to-face with Team Flash. He berated the group for not bowing to him, only to be derided for his claims to be a god. Seeking to rattle Team Flash, Savitar revealed intimate knowledge of each of the group's members as well as a chilling warning about the future; one would betray the group, one would die and one would suffer a fate worse than death. Barry demanded to know who Savitar really was and what he wanted, to which Savitar responded that he wanted to take back everything that Barry had taken from him, before he would destroy his nemesis. Confused, Barry angrily asked why Savitar didn't follow through with his threats right away, before realizing that he literally couldn't without the Philosopher's Stone. Enraged, Savitar revealed the reason for his vendetta: it was in fact a future version of Barry who had trapped him "in eternity" and vowed that he would rise again. Disconcerted, Barry disconnected Julian from Savitar.^[4]

Taunting Team Flash

"Iris, trying to show that you're not afraid? But I know you are. I'm sorry that you have to die. But it's you or me. And despite your feeble efforts to change the future, you can't, because I am the future Flash. Barry, you've had to suffer worse than anyone. You've endured pain your whole life. Your mother, your father. Trust me, you'll never get over this."

Having regained possession of most of the Philosopher's Stone after being thrown into the Speed Force by his younger self, Savitar put the next phase of his escape plan into action. He began telepathically haunting Wally to wear down,^[12] which came to a head while the Flash and Kid Flash were out on a run, and his hallucination actually attacked Kid Flash. Desperate for answers, Team Flash opened up a line of communication to Savitar through Julian once more. Savitar sardonically greeted the group, but Barry quickly rebuffed him when Barry argued that they were essentially the same, claiming Barry was the villain of their story to him. He revealed yet more intimate knowledge of the team such as Cisco being as powerful as Reverb and H.R. Wells surviving his future rampage. Team Flash interrogated Savitar extensively about his plans and his past, but got only cryptic answers and half-statements in response; Barry questioned about their feud's origin to which Savitar arrogantly derided both Eobard Thawne and Hunter Zolomon, claiming that he was his younger self's ultimate foe. He did however reveal that he had taken back the Philosopher's Stone and declared that his return couldn't be stopped no matter what the group did. As he rose to his feet, Savitar reaffirmed his intention to escape, kill Iris and destroy Barry, mockingly bringing up the deaths of Barry's mother and father. Fed up, Barry disconnected Julian from Savitar.

Satisfied that almost everything was in place, Savitar focused on getting the broken piece of the Philosopher's Stone's broken piece. He took Francine West's form while telepathically linked to Wally once again this time to torment with Francine's memory, pressuring Wally into stealing the piece. After Kid Flash stole the piece to an abandoned factory and manically tried to open a portal to the Speed Force which was held back by the power of the Philosopher's Stone, Savitar mocked Kid Flash's efforts, reminding Kid Flash that he would eventually kill everyone of the Earth-1 speedster's loved ones. Infuriated by Savitar's words, Kid Flash successfully opened a portal to the Speed Force and threw the piece of the Philosopher's Stone into the portal.

Escape from the Speed Force

"If you had the strength to end my life, you would have done it in the future. But Barry Allen doesn't kill. He's the good guy. The boy Joe raised. The man Iris loves. You have everything. And deserve none of it. I'm going to destroy this city like I did in the future, so you can see the truth, Barry. And then, you'll treat me like a god."

The Flash arrived on the scene as tendrils of white lightning seized and pulled Kid Flash into the Speed Force, while breaking its hold on Savitar, bursting out of the portal roaring in triumph. Pacing around the Flash, Savitar revealed his full escape plan and declared that saving Wally was now impossible. The Flash angrily charged Savitar and chased him into an alley. Though the Flash angrily promised to kill him, Savitar mocked these threats, reminding that his younger self was the hero who would never take a life and was unworthy of the life that had been given, vowing to destroy Central City like he did in the future. Savitar remained dominant, but the fight was more even-sided with both speedsters landing solid blows on the other, culminating in the Flash seizing Savitar in a headlock, demanding he show his face. Savitar instead pivoted out of it and stabbed the Flash through the shoulder with his gauntlet-blade, shattering the clavicle. Stating his intent to kill the Flash, Savitar promised to let his nemesis live long enough to watch Iris die. The Flash unexpectedly struck back by slicing off Savitar's blade with a vibrating hand. Roaring with anger, Savitar raced away.^[5]

Savitar remained silent and out of sight for the time being while Team Flash frantically searched for a way to rescue Wally from the Speed Force, in order to work on repairing his damaged armor. When he finished, he stepped back and observed from afar as Barry went back into the Speed Force to free Wally from Savitar's former prison. While doing so, he suddenly felt the lost piece of his armor being reactivated and homing in on him. Racing to the piece, he found himself confronted by Jesse Quick. He knew that Jesse would come for him, reprimanding Quick for claiming of not being afraid of him. Quick recklessly attacked with a lightning bolt, but Savitar inexplicably absorbed the bolt and fired right back at Quick which sent Jesse flying several feet. Savitar demanded the return of his severed gauntlet-blade and began telekinetically summoning the piece to him, which Quick clung on to and too was dragged towards him while H.R. quickly instructed Quick to find and attack a weak spot in Savitar's armor. Savitar seized Jesse by the neck and held before him, declaring that he had plans for the Earth-2 speedster to which his arrogance blinding him to the fact that Quick was still holding his gauntlet-blade. Quick retorted having plans too, viciously plunged the blade into Savitar's shoulder through a gap in his armor. Bellowing in agony, Savitar dropped Jesse and raced away. H.R. later informed Team Flash that Savitar was not a god after all but an armored man with super speed as he could feel pain.^[6]

Savitar steered clear of Team Flash while recuperating from the various injuries dealt to him. When this was over, he sensed Killer Frost's resurgence and went to meet in a forest on Central City's outskirts. When the two meet, Savitar greeted amicably and promised that he would ensure that Caitlin would never return, though Killer Frost was hesitant to believe him. To gain trust, Savitar knelt down, removed his armor and revealed his true identity.^[2]

Anticipating that his younger self would try to trap him in the Speed Force sooner than was destined, Savitar ordered Killer Frost to find and kill Tracy Brand, the physicist who would go on to build the technology in the first place, though Killer Frost was thwarted by the Flash and Vibe. When Killer Frost returned to him after having failed, Savitar chastised Killer Frost for not living up to the title and mused aloud if there was still a part of Caitlin having an influence to which Killer Frost quickly rebuffed him. Rethinking his plan, Savitar next ordered to kidnap Cecile Horton in order to force Team Flash's hand and trade Tracy. Knowing what the team would try to do instead, Savitar warned Killer Frost ahead of time of what his younger self would say to try and sway Caitlin back, as well as the trap that the group planned. After the team managed to subdue Killer Frost anyway, Savitar sped in as Vibe was taking a blood sample and swatted Vibe away. Proclaiming that his ascension is almost complete, Savitar concluded with a reminder that the Flash would fall before he picked up Killer Frost and raced away.

With this latest encounter, Savitar knew it wouldn't be long before Barry figured out his true identity and raced to meet Barry outside of Central City's outskirts as Barry searched for him. Standing before his nemesis, Barry figured out Savitar's identity due to his ability to flawlessly predict moves as well as his intimate knowledge of Team Flash's members were all because he had already lived this all himself (technically). Declaring his relief, Savitar knelt down, removed his armor and revealed himself as none other than a future version of his nemesis with a pale and scarred face. Grinning ghoulishly at his younger self, Savitar reiterated his frequently-repeated quip, that he was the Future Flash.^[13]

Savitar had a ghoulish smile on his face while he paced around his younger self as he laid everything out in the open: he was a time remnant created by a future version of his original self around 2020/2021 whom Savitar had allowed to live before being sealed away, comparing himself to Barry's first time remnant used against Zoom. He was rejected and shunned by his other self's loved ones as a "fake", leaving him bitter and broken. Desperate to make the pain go away, he was driven insane and strove to become a god, for which he went back in time to reinvent himself as the "original speedster", creating a perpetual cause and effect temporal loop. All that was left to complete the loop again is for Iris to die and a second element that he didn't reveal. Barry threatened with suicide to which Savitar had a brief moment of concern that was quickly undaunted, but cited the Reverse-Flash's existence despite Eddie Thawne's suicide as an example of how such action would be futile and declared his ascension nearly complete. Barry angrily charged Savitar and attempted to kill him, but was stopped by Savitar's self-operating armor which engaged the Flash in a brief struggle. As the Flash punched the armor away, Savitar sped back into his armor and began charging up for a lightning attack, as the Flash did the same. The two fired massive bolts of lightning at each other which caused a huge explosion, hurling the speedsters away from each other and allowing Savitar to escape.

While preparing for his next move, Savitar was inexplicably stripped of all his memories as a result of Team Flash accidentally wiping all of Barry's memories, causing him to randomly attack Killer Frost when his enforcer tried to talk to him. He remained in seclusion for a time until Team Flash undid the damage by restoring Barry's memories and Savitar's by extension.^[3]

Killing "Iris"

Savitar remained in his hideout in an abandoned warehouse and passed the time by repairing his suit of armor. Killer Frost approached him while admiring the armor and remarking on teaming up like the two used to as Barry and Caitlin. However, Savitar was quick to remind his enforcer that neither were who they used to be. Killer Frost pressed Savitar about his motivations for killing Iris, to which Savitar reiterated that Iris had to die otherwise he would never exist. Unconvinced, Killer Frost spoke of his original self's upbringing with Iris as possibly deterring him from ultimately killing Iris. Rising to his feet with an expression and voice full of rage and pain, Savitar coldly recounted being created as a disposable asset of his other self, nothing more than a cheap copy to be thrown away when no longer needed. He reasoned that if none of Team Flash cared about him, he shouldn't care about any of the group. Disturbed, Savitar asked Killer Frost to reiterate the commitment to the cause and re-prepare herself for her own actions. Suddenly, Savitar was hit by a fresh wave of new memories in which his younger self met with Leonard Snart/Captain Cold in the past to steal a power source from A.R.G.U.S. for Tracy. Killer Frost inquired to which Savitar waved it off as irrelevant and decided to let it continue, declaring this soon-to-be-made "speed gun" to be no match for him.

As he prepared for the final confrontation, Savitar's plan was thrown off briefly when he suddenly realized that he did not know where Iris was since his younger self had not been told either. Determined to get things back on track, he disguised himself in his old Flash uniform and raced into S.T.A.R. Labs of Earth-1 were he met Cisco, H.R. and Tracy. He told the group of obtaining the power source and asked where Iris was to which H.R. impulsively let slip that Iris has been on Earth-2, realizing the mistake too late as Savitar turned to reveal his scarred face. The team looked on in horror while H.R. could only choke out a single word before Savitar raced off to Earth-2.

As Joe, Wally and Harry Wells stood ready, Savitar burst out of the breach in S.T.A.R. Labs of Earth-2 in full armor. Kid Flash immediately charged him and landed a number of blows against him, before Savitar threw Kid Flash against the ceiling, caught him while falling and brutally broke Wally's leg with one stomp before tossing the young speedster aside. As Joe and Harry fired, Savitar silently exited his armor and appeared behind Joe, Harry and Iris. Looking into Savitar's maddened eyes, Joe attempted to reason with Savitar by apologizing for disregarding him in the future, referring to him as Barry. Unmoved, Savitar angrily stated that Barry was not his name. Iris promised to go with him and begged him not to kill the others, though Savitar claimed that he would only do so after they all watched Iris die. Joe begged Iris not to go to which Savitar interrupted, remarking that Iris had accepted this fate and that Joe should do the same. As Harry brandished a hidden gun, Savitar grabbed Iris and raced back to Earth-1.

He then chained up Iris in his lair and made a few adjustments to his suit, until H.R. used Savitar's blade piece to find Iris tied up. The blade flew from H.R.'s hand and fixed itself back to his suit to which Savitar saw H.R. and Iris running towards the exit, ordering Killer Frost to get Iris.^[1]

Savitar brought the individual he believed to be Iris to Infantino Street, where the Flash as well as Joe and Tracy were lying in wait. Savitar challenged the Flash to try and be a "hero", and dropped Iris to the ground. The Flash then went and used the Speed Force bazooka on Savitar. After avoiding a few shots, Savitar let himself be hit, making everyone believe for a moment that it was going to work. Savitar then burst free of the energy and revealed that he had the Philosopher's Stone (which was made of calcified Speed Force energy) that shielded him from the trap, taunting the Flash over having given the object to him when it was initially discarded into the Speed Force. Savitar then grabbed Iris and said that he was sentenced to an eternity of hell so Savitar was giving the same, proclaiming that he was finally free of his other self, before bringing out the spear from his armor. The Flash tried to run to and stop him while Savitar quickly stabbed his victim through the back before speeding away, leaving the Flash to cradle the individual's dying body.^[14]

Enacting his masterplan

After stealing the Speed Force bazooka, Savitar raced and found Killer Frost preparing to finish off Vibe, and ordered Killer Frost not to as he needed Vibe for the next phase of his plan. At that moment, Savitar was hit by fresh memories of Iris alive, and realized in horror that he had been tricked and had instead killed H.R. which would in turn change the future to one in which Savitar was never created. Enraged, Savitar pointed out that Vibe's own future had now changed too.

Upon returning to his lair in Mount Buccelato with Killer Frost and Vibe, Savitar ordered Vibe to convert the Speed Force bazooka into an interdimensional quantum splicer which he would use in combination with a portal to the Speed Force to fragment himself throughout all of time to make it impossible for the upcoming paradox to erase him from existence, thus allowing him to exist and rule as a god in every moment of time from the Big Bang to the end of time. All he needed was for Tracy to build the Speed Force bazooka earlier than was intended which was why he allowed Team Flash to live. When Vibe refused to help, Savitar threatened with a vibrating hand before threatening to kill Killer Frost by taunting Vibe with the revelation that Julian had developed a cure for Caitlin, leaving Vibe with no choice and relented.

While he waited for Vibe to finish, Savitar flashed a new memory of his younger self waiting for him in a warehouse. Realizing that this would give him the opportunity he needed, Savitar met with Barry. Barry implored Savitar to let him save him, citing a fond memory of their parents to get through to Savitar. Savitar allowed Barry to lead him back to S.T.A.R. Labs. Once there, he was confronted by Team Flash being highly reluctant to help him, especially Tracy. Barry and Iris took Savitar aside where Savitar questioned the two over what kind of life he would have if he gets saved, though the two could not give any definitive answers. Savitar also remembered a certain device being used on the Thinker while touring S.T.A.R. Labs. Eventually, Savitar decided he could not endure living in a world where nobody treated him like Barry. Giving up on redemption, Savitar took the Philosopher's Stone into S.T.A.R. Labs' basement to be set to overload. As Barry and Wally got everyone out, the Philosopher's Stone exploded and obliterated the complex's interior, giving Savitar the chance to escape. He returned to his lair as Vibe completed the interdimensional quantum splicer and ordered Killer Frost to kill, but Vibe was saved by Gypsy at the last second. Declaring what just happened unimportant, Savitar picked up the interdimensional quantum splicer and left to enact his master plan.

Knowing that the Speed Force would try to kill him because of the paradox, Savitar went to a park on Central City's outskirts with Killer Frost and the interdimensional quantum splicer in hand. Savitar opened a portal to the Speed Force and explained to Killer Frost that the reason he had brought his enforcer along was because of how the Speed Force dealt with speedsters who mess with time. As Savitar expected, the Black Flash was unleashed out of the Speed Force to which Killer Frost fired off several shots at the Black Flash which missed. The Black Flash raced to the two and lunged at Savitar, but Killer Frost hit and shattered the Black Flash. With the Speed Force's enforcer out of the way, Savitar stood in front of the portal to the Speed Force and ordered Killer Frost to shoot him with the interdimensional quantum splicer where multiple versions of himself are in a line leading into the Speed Force, appearing to work. Suddenly as the gun's beam turned red, his clones disappeared and Savitar was whole again as the beam instead went straight through him and into the portal to the Speed Force instead to which Jay burst out and swatted Savitar away. Horrified, Savitar turned to see Team Flash's powered members as Vibe revealing that the Speed Force bazooka had been turned into a skeleton key which freed Jay from Savitar's prison.

Fall of a god

Seething with rage that he had been tricked, Savitar raced away with both Flashes and Kid Flash in close pursuit while Vibe and Gypsy took on Killer Frost. Realizing he could not outrun the trio of speedsters for long, Savitar first tried to block the path by chopping down a pair of trees which failed. He then leapt high into the air and turned and fired a bolt of lightning at the three speedsters, which knocked the three down. Savitar returned to Killer Frost just in time to see Vibe standing over, victorious. Swatting Gypsy away, he seized Vibe by the throat and prepared to kill Vibe with a vibrating hand (similar to the Reverse-Flash and Zoom). However, Killer Frost turned on Savitar and blasted him away. Rising to his feet, Savitar reprimanded his former enforcer before bringing down the Flash trying to flank Savitar. Admitting that his time was almost up, Savitar declared that he would take down his nemesis with him by killing various loved ones.

Savitar was then phased out of his suit of armor when his nemesis jumped him from behind. As he lay on the ground, Savitar gets taunted. Amazed and confused, Savitar attacked without his armor, but was no match for his younger self and ended up on his knees.

As his nemesis stood before Savitar with his gauntlet-blade drawn, Savitar in despair dared his younger self to finish him off, believing Savitar would still exist even if he was killed. It was all for naught, however, his younger self instead spared Savitar, destroyed his suit of armor and laid out the time remnant with a vicious speed punch. The Flash walked back towards Killer Frost and Vibe while Savitar rose to his feet again and charged at the Flash roaring with rage, determined to take his nemesis down with him one way or the other, but only to end up being shot in the back by Iris which instantly killed him. As his body lay lifeless, the paradox had caught up and completely erased Savitar from existence.^[1]

Erased future

Savitar had his two former friends fight each other resulted in Killer Frost's imprisonment in Iron Heights at the cost of Cisco's hands. At some point, Savitar was sought out by Wally for revenge for Iris's death, but Savitar shattered Wally's spine before he caused Wally to be catatonic (in which Wally would remain so by 2024).^[2]

Savitar was regarded as one of the Flash's greatest enemies (alongside the Reverse-Flash, Zoom and the Thinker) by Abra Kadabra who was always somewhat jealous of Savitar as he was the only one who ever truly broke his other self.^[15]

New multiverse

The rise and fall of Savitar

Following the death and rebirth of the multiverse due to the Anti-Monitor Crisis, Savitar's history was incorporated into the reality of Earth-Prime. As in the previous multiverse, Savitar existed as a disgruntled time remnant that utilized time travel to create his own myth. In 2017, Savitar would face Team Flash in a bid to enact revenge for his mistreatment, attempting a risky move to splinter himself in time in order to achieve immortality. Savitar would be defeated and subsequently erased from existence.^[16]

Legion of Zoom

Just before his defeat, Savitar found himself in the Negative Speed Force in 2023, where the Reverse-Flash, Zoom and August Heart were all arguing with each other. Savitar quickly claimed his superiority upon entrance to August. All four speedsters ultimately learned they died in their respective quests to kill the Flash, and that the four had taken out of time just before their deaths. Cobalt Blue offered them more speed and another chance if they worked together to finally defeat the Flash to which Savitar, along with the others, all accepted and formed the Legion of Zoom.

When Cobalt Blue confronted the Flash and then gets outnumbered by Team Flash, Cobalt Blue quickly summoned breaches where Savitar and the other members of the Legion emerged to join the conflict. Savitar smugly declared that they would change the future as a full battle broke out. In the ensuing chaos, Savitar targeted XS, chasing XS across Central City and managing to catch XS. Savitar stated that XS wouldn't survive.

He then tried to stab XS through the back with one of his blades, but XS phased through the attack, allowing her to survive. XS then broke the spike off and used it to stab Savitar in the back in turn, disabling his suit and taking him out of the fight.

When Cobalt Blue siphoned off the speed of the Legion, Savitar and the other speedsters were returned to the point of their deaths.^[16]

Legacy

Original multiverse

Savitar's actions impacted Team Flash even following his defeat. Savitar and Jay were no longer in the Speed Force to keep stable resulted in energies poured into Earth-1, causing Barry to sacrifice freedom by entering the Speed Force and remained for 6 months until Barry's return to Earth-1 was orchestrated by the Thinker which made Savitar indirectly responsible for the bus metas.^[17][18]

Savitar was mentioned in comparison to the Thinker, though it was worth noting this was in a timeline where most of Savitar's goals were accomplished.^[19][20]

Sometime before 2032 in the erased future where Nora originated from, Savitar's suit of armor was displayed within the Hall of Villains in the Flash Museum along with other memorabilia from past villains that Team Flash had fought and defeated.^[21]

New multiverse

One of Eva McCulloch's Mirrorverse hallucinations had included the version of Iris previously destined to be killed by Savitar.^[22]

Psych's hallucination of Savitar attacked and stabbed the Flash through the chest.^[23]

Savitar was remembered by the Negative Speed Force.^[24]

Personality

"You, Joe, Wally, Cisco, you all shunned me because I wasn't the true Barry Allen. I was an aberration, a disposable hero. Future you failed to mention that, didn't he? I was broken and alone. I wanted the pain to end and that's when I realized the truth, Barry. God feels no pain. All I had to do was become one."

Barry's time remnant, Savitar, possessed his other self's morals and value but also his painful memories and darkness within, as evidenced when returning to S.T.A.R. Labs while considering Team Flash's offer to help him. However, after the death of Iris West, Savitar was shunned for being an aberration. Broken and utterly alone, he wanted his pain to end but eventually came to the realization that "God" feels no pain, thus aspiring to be one in order to escape his torment but becoming a twisted individual as a result of this aspiration.^[3]

Since then, Savitar had a developed a god complex to the point that he demands that all other bow down and worship him because of it. He was also arrogant to the point of being delusional as that the only thing that required him to become a god was to make enough people believe in him as one.^[4] To those who do view him as a god such as his cult of followers, Savitar seemed appreciative of them enough to aid them in time of need.^[10] Savitar was also egotistical, as he reveled in his status as the fastest speedster in the multiverse but at the same time he had a measure of insecurity related to other powerful speedsters to the point that he supposedly challenged so that they could no longer pose a threat to his power.^[4]

Savitar was also ruthless in his actions to the point of cruelty, as evidenced by his murders of the CCPD officers and his treatment of the members of Team Flash. Savitar's treatment as an aberration had caused him to hate them for abandoning him, which caused him to become who was now in the first place.^[14] Savitar, in particular, hated his other self, going so far as to state that Barry was the villain; he initially never sought conflict with Barry but was the only one to ever truly lose anything as a result of their conflict with one another. Savitar also feels that his other self had everything yet deserved none of it, indicating that on some level he desired his other self's life for himself.^[5]

While not wearing his suit of armor, Savitar was seen to have a somewhat calm demeanor and even shown to make jokes, albeit in an attempt to mock his opponents; one example was when Barry discovered his true identity, Savitar made a comment about, how it's almost like looking in a mirror and that how he had outgrown red (his former suit's color) another such example, was when Killer Frost points out that his suit really makes him look like a god who responded with a smile and said to dress for the job you want.

In spite of Savitar's hatred for his other self, he does seem to have a degree of empathy left inside him. He empathizes with Barry for all the suffering Barry has endured so far from losing Nora Allen and Henry Allen. Additionally, he showed empathy toward killing Iris, due to memories of love he has for Iris but ultimately chose to try and kill to ensure his own existence. Additionally, Savitar firmly states he has always been with Barry from the very beginning, as he refers to himself as Barry's own worst enemy and innermost demon, something Barry admits to being true.^[5]

• Speed Force-Negative Speed Force connection/Meta-human physiology: As a time remnant of Barry Allen, Savitar possessed a powerful connection to the Speed Force. Savitar potency to draw power from the Speed Force apparently greatly exceeded all other known users to the point that he claimed to be the "ruler" of the Speed Force.^[11] However, it's later revealed that he was that fast only because he was trapped in the Speed Force, as he was seen to be around the same speed as 2017 Barry, when he got out. Savitar's powers could be used when exposed to meta-human power dampeners, however it's possible that he was only able to do so, because he was trapped in the Speed Force at the time.^[25] After accepting Eddie Thawne's proposal, Savitar was empowered by the Negative Speed Force in 2023.^[16]
  • Accelerated healing factor: Savitar like all other speedsters had a healing factor that allowed him to regenerate and repair damage to his body at great speeds. Despite his increased connection to the Speed Force, the efficiency of his healing powers appears to have been reduced. He was not able to heal from the scars on the right side of his face, through running at enormous amounts of speed that temporarily vaporized and left him burned may simply be too damaging for even him to heal.
  • Electrokinesis: When running at superhuman speeds, Savitar generates yellow lightning yet he generates white lightning once inside his armor. Savitar is capable of projecting electrical arcs for attacks when moving at super speed. Savitar also had the unique ability to absorb and redirect any electrical arcs launched at him.^[6] After he tapped into the Negative Speed Force, Savitar's lightning turned into red. He was also still able to hurl lightning at his opponents.^[16]

    

  • Superhuman agility: Barry possessed superhuman bodily coordination, balance, equilibrium, and dexterity. He is able to change direction immediately, thus allowing him to make sharp turns and easily maneuver while moving at immense speed.^[10]
  • Superhuman speed: Savitar was unfathomably fast despite the huge suit of armor he wears. His astronomical speed allowed him race around Alchemy's lair and instantly kill the CCPD by running past the multiple cops.^[10] Savitar effortlessly countered and outmaneuvered the movements of 2016 Barry which was slow-motion in comparison during their first encounter. He later showed equal dominance against the veteran speedster Jay Garrick and simultaneously against 2016 Barry and Wally West. Even after being freed from his prison, Savitar continued to dominate speedsters like 2017 Barry and Jesse Wells who were only able to fend him off by outsmarting him for a decent enough hit, but the combined efforts of 2017 Barry, Jay, and Wally together were still not enough to overwhelm him.^[1] Savitar seemed to be faster as a user of the Negative Speed Force than he was before being erased from existence, as he was able to keep up with Nora West-Allen who in turn is able to keep up with the 2023 version of the Flash.^[16]
    • Bodily vibration: Even when wearing his suit, Savitar can still use his ability to vibrate his body for various effects, such as to transfer extreme amounts of friction and kinetic energy through physical contact or to phase through objects. When encased in sub-zero ice, he was able to almost instantly break free from his confinement. When trying to kill Cisco Ramon, he attempted to do so with his vibrating hand to mirror Cisco's erased death at Eobard Thawne's hands.^[10][1]
    • Time travel: Savitar can willingly traverse the time stream in order to increase his influence and create his following. Having traveled back to past era's of history searching for and infusing his power into the Philosopher's Stone and founding his own cult of followers who fanatically serve him.
    • Interdimensional travel: Savitar could run so fast that with enough speed he could open dimensional breaches to travel the multiverse. Savitar's ability to use dimensional breaches, allowed him to use sudden movement allowing him to shift and warp about and appear out of nowhere to new locations. Combined with his raw speed, his actions could allow him to appear as if he was at multiple places at once and rapidly switch the terrain to his preference.^[11] Savitar's unique ability for near teleporting like speed, may have been due to the unique circumstances of his imprisonment as has never shown this ability again once he was freed from the Speed Force.^[5] He was, however, able to effortlessly open a breach that led precisely to Earth-2.
    • Seismokinesis: Savitar is capable of generating earthquakes.^[10] This ability is likely linked to the absurd amount of kinetic energy he transfers into the ground with every step he takes, or it could be a function of his armor.^[1]
    • Superhuman momentum: Savitar can generate great amounts of physical force through the kinetic energy his immense speed generates. This allowed him to kill several CCPD members and knock the cops into the air by merely running past the cops when he first encountered 2016 Barry.^[10]He was also able to jump several feet into the air due to running so fast.
  • Superhuman perception: Savitar is easily capable of keeping up with and perceiving the movements and actions of speedsters.
  • Superhuman stamina: Savitar's body can handle the stresses of superhuman racing without noticeable distress.^[10] He is repeatedly shown to be run for an extended period of time with his heavy armor with no ill effects.
  • Superhuman strength: Savitar possessed peak strength and his strength is further augmented by his armor. Savitar was able to lift and drag a fully-grown man off the ground by their throat, all with a single hand.^[7][10] Savitar was able to pummel and toss around his original self, Wally and Jay with one hand and, with one punch, he was able to send Jay flying over a building.^[4]
• Philosopher's Stone connection: Savitar traveled back in time to locate the Philosopher's Stone, a powerful artifact made of calcified Speed Force energy and established a connection to the Philosopher's Stone. It's unknown as to how he managed to establish his connection to the stone.
  • Speedster weapon immunity: The Philosopher's Stone, while connected to Savitar, immunized him from weapons that can affect speedsters who draw power from the Speed Force. While wielding it, Savitar was protected from being trapped in the Speed Force itself. The Philosopher's Stone also protects him from being re-imprisoned in the Speed Force a second time.
  • Possession: Once establishing a strong enough connection to a person's mind, Savitar is able to completely overshadow their actions, turning them into his unwitting pawn, and possess the individuals, as he did with Julian Albert to turn into "Alchemy", and enabling to wield the power of the Philosopher's Stone.
  • Telepathy: With his connection to the Philosopher's Stone, Savitar is able to manipulate others' minds. He can telepathically communicate with them and project illusions that only they can see. This power can still be used even while sealed away in the box. However, it's considerably weakened, as he can only prey on a person's insecurities, such as creating illusions of their lost loved ones, to con into releasing him.
  • Power bestowal via recognition: The Philosopher's Stone can even return the powers of individuals who have been wielding them during the Flashpoint timeline. While in Flashpoint, he was unaware of some metahumans, like Magenta and Shade, but somehow gained knowledge of them. It would appear that the Philosopher's Stone bestows metahuman powers to those who had powers in alternate timelines.
• Savitar Suit Capabilities: Savitar was able to use his suit for various purposes.
  • Energy absorption: Using his suit, Savitar was able to absorb copious amounts of energy and redirect it from his suit, as white energy. This was demonstrated when Jesse threw a lightning bolt at him, and Savitar merely absorbed it and redirected it back.

Former powers

• Invisibility: Due to being imprisoned in the Speed Force and the Philosopher's Stone, Savitar was unable to be perceived by anyone who was not connected to the Speed Force. Cisco was able to see him via vibes, due to Savitar having already escaped from the Speed Force. But after the rest of the Philosopher's Stone was thrown in the Speed Force which then led to him being freed from the Speed Force, Savitar was no longer invisible to Team Flash, as evidenced when he showed up on Team Flash's surveillance camera.

• Master manipulator: In his avatar as Alchemy, Savitar convinced Edward Clariss and other reborn meta-humans to be agents of his will. He was also able to advise and keep in line the rebellious Magenta. As Alchemy, he spoke to his cult members, leading them together to believe that he is a deity.^[4] He manipulated Julian Albert and later Cisco Ramon to release him, using their own feelings against them. He was also able to trick Team Flash into getting the Philosopher's Stone into the Speed Force and get Wally West to take his place as a prisoner of the Speed Force to free himself.
• Skilled hand-to-hand combatant: Savitar is a capable fighter as evidenced by his rapid victory over other speedsters like 2017 Barry. His style is not as refined as Eobard Thawne's yet is as savage as Hunter Zolomon's; he uses his extraordinary speed to land powerful blows and throw his opponents around with his inhuman momentum.^[4] While trapped in the Speed Force, he often incorporated dimensional breaching to switch the terrain to his preference in an instant, keeping his opponent disoriented and off guard, though he apparently lost this ability after being freed from the Speed Force.

• Intimidation: After so many years trapped in the Speed Force, Savitar created a legend of himself being a speed deity which he uses a cult to induce fear towards selected targets. As well as his armor displaying a terrifyingly alter-ego once he allows others to physically face him, unless he shows his real identity which shocked at least Iris West and H.R. Wells at first glance.

• Cold temperatures: Much like other speedsters, Savitar seems to be weakened or at least momentarily stunned when exposed to an extremely cold environment. This was proven when Caitlin Snow's freezing powers were used on an invisible Savitar. However, either his armor, imprisonment in the Speed Force, or higher level of power allowed him to shortly afterward break free and recover enough to escape.
• Limited healing factor: Despite his increased connection to the Speed Force, the efficiency of his healing powers appears to have been reduced. He was not able to heal from the scars on the right side of his face, though running at enormous amounts of speed that temporarily vaporized and left him burned may simply be too damaging for even him to heal.

Former weaknesses

• Connection to the Philosopher's Stone: At some point, Savitar was defeated by his other self when the stone was sealed away in its box. Savitar can only maintain his presence in the world while the Philosopher's Stone is in contact with the world outside of its containment vessel. But now that Savitar gets free from the Speed Force and Jay Garrick takes his place in the Speed Force, the stone is no longer a weakness to him.

Equipment

• Armor: Upon gaining his remarkable speed, Savitar also gained a full-bodied suit of armor that is massive in size and demon-like in form and generates white lightning when he uses his speed.^[4] Acting as a mechanized battle-suit, it opens from the backside. It possesses a thick, retractable blade-spikes mounted on each wrist for melee weapons and seemingly is able to disguise his voice. While in the suit, his normal yellow lightning turns white. The armor can also move and attack on its own, should Savitar be attacked out of his suit, though it's unable to use his speed. The broken pieces can be telekinetically drawn/summoned back to the rest of the suit from any distance or if it's close enough.
  • Advanced durability: The armor itself is extremely resilient and enormous durability, enough that Joe West's bullets and shots from the Mercury Labs energy rifle ricocheted off him harmlessly. He also takes nearly no damage when his younger self or Wally West attacked him, although he was shown to feel pain when his younger self severed his arm blade with his vibrating hand and Jesse Quick stabbed the armor with the severed arm blade. But as his suit has been shown to be removable, it's possible that was a reaction to discomfort. So far, he has only been damaged by weapons made from its own material.
    • Cold resistance: The armor protected him from Caitlin Snow freezing him solid, as he was able to instantly burst out of it unfazed and ran away.
  • Advanced strength: The armor's size, mechanized parts and material give it great strength, allowing him to effortlessly lift, drag and send people flying through the air with one hand. Even when his briefly lost his memories and, therefore, forgot his powers along with his younger self, he retained his strength due to his suit, allowing him to lift Killer Frost against a wall with one hand. While operating without Savitar being inside it, the suit managed to throw his original self several feet and briefly pin down with its foot before the speedster forced it off him.
  • Voice filtering: Savitar is able to disguise his voice so as to not be identified as a megalomaniacal version of his other self. It's unknown if this filter is exclusive to the armor, as the same voice was used when he spoke through the people he possessed.
• Philosopher's Stone: Savitar went back in time and discovered this artifact long ago, using it to hire meta-humans, and also to further enhance his power. He used this artifact up to the point of being defeated and trapped in the Speed Force within it by his other self until he was able to use it to escape his imprisonment. Savitar was able to use the stone preventing from the Speed Force bazooka from trapping him in the Speed Force again.

Behind the scenes

• In the DC comics, Savitar was an ex-pilot from Eastern Europe who was empowered during a test flight, after which he named himself after Savitr, the Hindu god of motion, and dedicated his life to unlocking and mastering the secrets of the Speed Force. He discovered creative ways of using the Speed Force and tried to kill every other speedster on Earth, transferring their Speed Force connections onto himself. He formed a cult before he was eventually trapped in the Speed Force by Max Mercury. After decades he was freed, finding his cult had only grown awaiting his return, and he led them to war against Wally West, Max, and the other heroic speedsters. Wally eventually used his friends' speed to boost himself and Savitar to the point where Savitar was sealed in the Speed Force. After Barry Allen came back to life, Savitar escaped again and Barry chased him down, not knowing Barry's touch resulted in Savitar's death and disintegration. Savitar later returned to life.
  • The Future Flash is a possible future version of Barry who travels back in time to kill his younger self who he blames himself for the death of Wally twenty years into the future. The Future Flash wears a metallic silver suit that is covered with several glowing cyan etches and he emits lightning that looks blue and white.
  • A scarred displaced speedster is Walter West / Dark Flash, a doppelgänger of Wally.
  • A speedster's usage of a metallic suit of armor is Daniel West / Reverse-Flash.
• The mystery of Savitar's identity was a great gag pulled on the audience.
  • From the start, he's always told who he was the "Future Flash" every time. But it was spoken as if there was a comma between the words: "future, Flash".
• Up until his appearance in "The Wrath of Savitar", all of Savitar's appearances were all CGI, although the scene where he killed H.R. also rendered him in CGI.
• Savitar and Adrian Chase share some similarities:
  • Both serve as the main antagonist of the 2016-17 seasons of their respective shows.
  • Both desire revenge against the main protagonist.
  • Both convince a female member of the heroic team to follow them.
  • Both use an alias based on a mythical character.
  • Both are eventually killed by a gun.
