"Negative, Part Two" is the twentieth and final episode of the eighth season of The Flash, and the one-hundred-seventy-first episode overall. It aired on June 29, 2022. It acts as the second half of a two-part episode.
Synopsis
| With The Flash still reeling from everything that just happened, the rest of the team rallies to support him when he needs it the most.[src] |
Plot
The Negative Forces transform Thawne into their new avatar. In the Negative Speed Force, they explain to Barry that this is their revenge for when he weakened them by removing Thawne's speed since he'd been the Negative Speed Force avatar. Meanwhile, Cecile rescues Bashir and transfers her powers to him, which he uses to rescue the other Forces so they can aid Barry. Iris is saved by the Time Stone and Damien Darhk helps her resurrect herself. Jay Garrick reunites her with Barry. With help from the Forces, he reverses a powerful attack from Thawne back into him, destroying him and removing him from the timeline. After the universe "resets," Iris is cured of her time sickness and the speedsters return to their native times. The BLOC is depowered and Meena loses her speed. The CRC malfunctions and Mark encounters a new Frost claiming to be "a friend." Mona and Dillon's powers are restored while Cecile develops Telekinesis. Tinya and Renee are reunited. Iris mentions that the Negative Speed Force will find a new avatar and Barry states that he'll be ready. A blue crystal is shown at a laboratory in 2049.

Trivia
- This is the last episode of The Flash:
- To feature Jesse L. Martin (Joe West) as a series regular.
- To credit Jon Cor (Mark Blaine) as a guest star, as he will be a series regular in the next season.
- To be presented in matted widescreen format. The series would transition to letterbox format starting with the next episode.
- To feature Jordan Fisher (Bart West-Allen) as he doesn't appear for the duration of the series.
- As of this episode, The Flash has surpassed Arrow as having the most episodes of any series in the Arrowverse.
- Thawne's fate is a nod to the events of "Legacy".
- During the episode's final scene, a flashforward to 2049 is shown with the calendar reading June 29; the airdate of this episode.
- This episode's events are reminiscent of the events in "Armageddon, Part 5". The difference is that Barry refused to let Team Flash change his mind about Thawne’s fate this time.
- It's stated by Bashir that all the Forces had to anchor themselves to someone after getting infected by Iris' time sickness. The Sage Force attached itself to Cecile; however, it is not expanded on whom the Speed Force, Strength Force, and Still Force attached themselves to.
- Thawne imploding from absorbing too much of the Negative Forces' energies is a callback to the comics, where it's fatal to mix a minimum of two Forces.
- This isn't the case in this Arrowverse new multiverse for Barry as the Still, Sage and Strength Forces were all born from Iris and himself when they revived the Speed Force.
- Too many Negative Forces channeled through an avatar can deeply affect their personality. Thawne possessing Nash Wells showed an incredibly bloodthirsty change in his personality with just negative tachyons, but subsided when he regained a true body. With all four Negative Forces, Thawne outright loses any deeper reason beyond simple death and mayhem.
- The unknown persona who emerges from the chamber appears to be neither Caitlin or Frost, but a blend between their separate personas. (Though she still inhabits Caitlin's body, strictly speaking, leaving her 'soul' or 'self' apparently dead or incapacitated.)
- Thawne snapping Fast Track back to prehistoric times references her actress, Kausar Mohammed's voice-lent role in Camp Cretaceous and later, Chaos Theory.
- Barry calls his nemesis by his last name, but referred to his good time remnant by his given name; Barry himself never used Eobard's name in any capacity previously, so he does this to differentiate the two.
- Ironically, Harry Wells had the habit of calling people by their last names, which Thawne also did occasionally.
- It's also reminiscent of "Central City Strong", where Barry addresses Abra Kadabra by the latter's civilian name.
- This episode marks Damien Darhk last appearance in the entire Arrowverse Franchise.
Goof
- Similar to the DC's Legends of Tomorrow episode "Knocked Down, Knocked Up", a credit for Superman's creators appeared in the end credits, but nothing Superman-related was in the episode.
